Hello Dorienne
I have thought of you often over the past week and apologize for not sending this note earlier. It is always crazy coming back home after an extended vacation and the days get away too quickly.
Amy and I had a fantastic trip to Africa! We were so pleased with the accommodations, the itinerary, and the people we encountered…just a wonderful experience!
I want to thank you both for all the time and energy that you put into building this itinerary for us as it was all we hoped for and then more. We were lucky to have very good weather on our journey. We did not see a drop of rain for the entire 17 days, and we were well prepared for the various temperatures that we encountered.
Highlights / Comments of each stop throughout the trip…
Cape Town is a spectacular city, and we learned so much from Rhys. He is very professional as well as flexible, and we really enjoyed our time travelling in and around the city with him. The Cape Grace is a superb hotel with great service and so well located on the waterfront. We were lucky on the weather as it was beautiful every day.
Bush Lodge was a very good choice for our safari portion. We were pleased with accommodations, food and service. The only downside was that there were a lot of kids on property while we were there. Lauren, the Resort Manager, and Fred, our Ranger, took very good care of us and were fantastic people. We saw the Big 5 numerous times and the photo opportunities never stopped.
Livingstone was a new experience as there was a dramatic difference in leaving South Africa. Victoria Falls was amazing and the helicopter ride topped off the view. The cruise and elephant safari were great, and the lion encounter was ok. As far as the accommodations, the Royal Livingstone is a visually one of the most beautiful hotels that I have seen. Being on the property was just breathtaking. That being said, the food and service we encountered there were not at the same level of the other hotels that we stayed. This was disappointing considering the beauty of the property and price. There was also confusion on a few occasions with tour operators between the tours we had booked, pick up time for departure, etc. This is the only place where we encountered any problems at all.
Johannesburg was a quick one night stay, but the hotel and location were great. Transfers to and from the airport were professional and on time.
Indigo Bay was a challenge to get to, but well worth it! The property was beautiful, the weather fantastic, and the food and service were both very good. Our accommodations were very nice, and while there were several children there, the adult pool allowed us quiet time to relax.
We had a blog for our friends and family to follow our adventures that got great reviews, and returned from our trip with over 1300 photos and many videos. The memories of this trip will stay with us for life and we are so happy to have experienced it all.
You will definitely hear from us in the future as we would be anxious to take a similar trip over the next few years.
Again, thank you for all of your help and work to set up this once in a lifetime journey for us! AMAZING!
Take care,
Kim
